Makoto Kino, although his names sounds like a familiar Japanese name, is not Japanese. It’s a drone-pop project by Mexico city artist Federico Cabrera Celio. His new album “Eternal Loss” is infused with surreal and Dadaist mood and hued with dark, twisted eroticism. It’s a kind of music you sink yourself in, deeper and deeper.
Dublin based musician who we have interviewed on our Hear Me Out section, Feather Beds has finally released his debut album, Skeletal System via Frenchkiss affiliated label, Happiness. Building up a unique song structure with field recordings and found sounds, Feather Beds creates his own art rock that is trots somewhere between Noise, Folk and Drone.
North Carolina’s 24 year old producer Hanz recently dropped a new single called “Count”. Combining the textures of Techno, Drone and weaving unexpected samples taken from unknown and somehow familiar sounding sources, Hanz creates a dark and funny soundscape. He is currently in the process of making a new record, Reducer and this track is a cut from it.
Following the tone of the last post, here’s another yummy drone-leaning track from an emerging 22 year-old producer Jon Winfield, aka CerebralFX. In his new track “Kaoss”, which is a track taken from his upcoming debut album Claustrophobia, the dublin-based beatsmith puts forward dominant white noise and agitating shouts that resonates in the background, and then suddenly drops dancey thumps.
Kyoto-based witch-house, drone producer Eadonmm recently shared a new track, “If You Melted” As the title suggests, it is full of frightening, almost zombie-awakening sounds that can make you shiver up in Halloween themed nights. NZ producer Fis, aka Olly Perryman is debuting on TriAngle with the new EP, Preparations on November 11. Listen to “DMT Usher”. An unsettling white noise blows a cold wind, while robotically inorganic and stark rhythm keep on going relentlessly.
Recently Focused and one of the most exciting Japanese producers to watch, Nagoya-based Noah recently put out her brand new EP Two. This 4-track album features a 21-year-old Huston native rapper/self-called Vaporwave Artist, Siddiq. It is now streaming and offered with Name Your Price from Flau’s bandcamp.
One of the most original, and wonderful labels in JapanFlau Records continues to introduce bright talent. This time, it’s two girls doing drone folk, Ikebana. With their minimalist approach and somber tones, it can remind listeners of early-Cat Power. Their upcoming release When You Arrive There is out now via Flau.
