アーティストのことは詳しく知らなかったのですが、Make Believe Melodiesの Patrick がTwitterでおすすめしていたので聞いてみたら、期待以上のローファイ・ベッドルームポップな作品でハート直撃でした。Grimesの初期作品を彷彿とさせるようなオープナー “絵の後ろの人”、チルウェーブ（もう死語かな）と共振する”流れてく数字”など、Sean Nicholas SavageやDoldrumsなど、Arbutus Records所属のアーティストのような、独特の箱庭ポップを展開していています。作り手が楽しんで作っているところが想像できて、音楽ってここまで自由で良いんだなと思わせてくれる、希少な作品です。

Kanagawa’s Lo-fi bedroom auteur Sho Yoshimura released their newest album, キャベツ (cabbage) from Juusou Packaging, which is now available to stream and purchase at Bandcamp.

I did not know much about the artist until Make Believe Melodies Patrick tweeted a high accolade to this album; “One of the first great albums of 2023”. After the first listen, I immediately understood, felt even, its appeal. The German speech sampling opener “絵の後ろの人” sounds like Grimes circa 2010, while ”流れてく数字” connects with a beloved and mostly dead sub-genre of Chill Wave. The album has an extremely chill and laid-back attitude that is hard to imitate. As you listen, you can actually imagine the artist simply having fun making music. And it’s such a comforting thought. We all need a bit of that, don’t we?
