フィンランドのエレクトロニックプロデューサー、Sasu RipattiによるプロジェクトVladislav Delayが急遽『Hide Behind The Silence』という5部作からなる作品のリリースを発表。その第一弾目がBandcampで試聴・購入を開始しています。

Stillness (静寂/静けさ)を題材にしたこのシリーズ。ビートはほとんど感じられず、全編にわたり、攻撃的で荒々しいノイズが、まるで吹き荒れる嵐のように広がっています。静寂をテーマにした作品にしては全然静かじゃないじゃないか、と思われるかもしれませんが、Bandcamp上のQ&Aで彼はこう答えています。

「私にとってはこれはかなり静かなんです。沈黙というより、空間と戯れているというか。静けさの後ろ側に何があるかは分かりませんが、静けさはあらゆるものの源だと思います。私たちはまだそれを理解できていないだけなのです」

Vladislav Delayが音で表現する「静けさ」には美しさも醜さも同居しているように、私は感じています。

Finland’s prolific electronic producer Sasu Ripatti announced a series five 10" released by surprise. The first instalment of “Hide Behind The Silence” is now available to stream and purchase on Bandcamp.

As the title suggests, the theme of the EP is stillness. However it is far from quiet. The EP is filled with harsh, blizzard like electronic sound, bouncing ears to ears, illuminating the soundscape with its beauty and ugly. The artist himself answers the very question why it is not “silent”:

Oh, this time to me it sounds quite quiet and playing with space if not silence. I don’t know what’s actually behind silence, but I think silence is the source of everything. We just don’t understand it yet.
