Heavy Rotation: Tom VR, “Please Keep Shimmering”

今回の聞き逃しレビューは英Leedsのエレクトロニックプロデューサー、TOM VRの2021年作『Please Keep Shimmering』です。

ロックダウン中に制作されたという今作。1曲目を飾る”Soared Straight Through Me”は、 忙しなく駆け抜けるハイハット、空間を埋め尽くすシンセサウンドと、限りなく制御されたベース音がまるで空を飛んでいるような気分にさせてくれる痛快なトラック。このテンションを引き継ぐ2曲目はUKガラージなドラムスとアナログシンセのアルペジオが、リスナーを音の迷宮へと誘う”Patrichor”。アルバム全体、首尾一貫してあらゆる方向で音が鳴り続けているのですが、支離滅裂とした印象はありません。メランコリックでエモーショナルなメロディと肉体的なダンスミュージックが奇跡のバランスで融合した、今聴くべき電子音楽だと思います。オススメです。

"Please Keep Shimmering" , an electronic dance album produced by Leeds-based producer Tom VR, perfectly captures the sounds in our heads; information filled, restless, hyperconnected and hungry for recognition.

The first track, "Soared Straight Through Me," literally soars through with its restless hi-hats, Synth pads fully covers every space and the absence of bass sounds make you feel like you're actually flying through the air. The second track, "Patrichor," continues this tension with UK garage drums and analog synth arpeggios, inviting the listeners into a sonic labyrinth. Throughout the album, the sound continues to play in all directions, but somehow it never seems to go disjointed. Highly recommended.
